Christina's Diary Entries

Introduction

39 weeks!

First of all, I want to wish everyone a very joyous New Year! May 2002 bring you all that you desire! As for me, I am married to the most wonderful man on the planet and 2002 is bringing us our first child… a sweet little boy to love, spoil, and cherish. I really could not ask for more this year. I feel blessed beyond belief!

Well, as you can see, I made it yet another week with no sign of Ethan’s arrival! Well, actually, I thought maybe he may have trying to get my attention on Friday. I woke up Friday morning and dropped my mother off at the airport (she is going away for a week or two to visit a friend but will be returning). After dropping her off, I felt a lot of cramping. It never went away. All day long I had a ton of cramping and contractions. It really felt as though things might be getting a move on. I even packed my hospital bag… something I should have done weeks ago anyway. All day long Mike checked in with me. I told him I’d let him know if things got worse. They didn’t. Someone from our church came over to see us that evening and Mike even told him that he probably wouldn’t see us in church on Sunday… we’d probably be in the hospital! Well, Ethan is still very comfortable in his little water world, however cramped and tight it might be! That evening, all activity stopped. No more cramping and no more contractions. Part of me was a little disappointed. I was kind of anxious to get the show on the road. Mike was VERY disappointed! Needless to say, we showed up at church on Sunday!

So here we are, still no Ethan, but still very happy. I gained one more week of time with him all to myself! I am so happy. Mike really thought we’d have that 2001 tax deduction to write off, but since there are less than 12 hours left in this year and I am feeling NOTHING, it’s highly unlikely! That’s okay. Ethan will come when he is good and ready.

Well, it’s New Year’s Eve. Usually, we have plans to do something or go somewhere. This year, with the baby so close to being born, we didn’t make any real plans. We have been invited to a party at a friend’s house, but I think we have opted to just stay home and have a quiet evening to ourselves. Mike is not feeling that great (he’s got the upper respiratory junk that is going around) and I don’t think I am really up to a party. I’ll bake cookies and we’ll have root beer floats and probably play a couple of games… maybe watch a movie. We have a bottle of sparkling grape juice ready to go. I enjoy spending quiet evenings at home with my husband. Our evenings won’t be very quiet for very much longer!

I think we had all the activity I can handle last night… we had a cat chase! Yes, a cat chase! About a week ago, Mike warned me that a cat had somehow gotten inside our garage while the door was open and wouldn’t leave. It would run behind the furnace or up on the rafters and hide out. We left the door open for a long time, assuming it would leave. Well, it did not. I have not left any food for it because I have not wanted to encourage it to stay. I figured I could starve it out of the garage. Well, my brother-in-law and his wife came over last night. We told them about the cat as they were getting ready to leave (at midnight I might add). Well, that got his interest and he said he wanted to see if he could see it. So, we snuck over to the garage door, flipped on the light and he went exploring. He even got the ladder out and found it, hiding in the corner up in the rafters… well, he got a rake and attempted to scare it out… it took off across the rafters, jumping two at a time and much to our surprise, squeezed itself into a tiny (and I do mean TINY) whole in the house where the electrical wiring was sticking out of. We were shocked. It has basically been living in the crawl space above our house, which we only figured out last night. Funny enough, twice in the past week, I have heard a weird sound in the ceiling when sitting in our office. I thought it was maybe a bird or squirrel scratching on the roof. Now I know it was a cat in the crawl space! Well, my brother-in-law, being the adventurous scout that he is, could not resist the challenge. He brought the ladder into our house, went up into the crawl space and began trying to chase it back out the hole in the garage. Meanwhile, Mike, my sister-in-law, and myself were all waiting in the garage… each of us had a stick ready and something to block that hole once he came out. You should have seen us… garage door opened, acting like lunatics at 1230 in the morning! He was able to successfully chase out the cat. It ran behind the furnace again. We blocked the hole and were finally able to chase that cat OUT of our garage! Talk about an adventure!

Anyway… I’ll write another entry next week. Maybe it will be a pregnancy update, maybe it will be a birth announcement! Only time will tell… and only Ethan knows which it will be! He’s already outsmarting me! I wish everyone a very safe and memorable New Year’s Eve celebration!
