Dawn L's Diary Entries

May 25, 2001

37 weeks, 1 day

My sonogram was very informative today. I found out that since yesterday my little (ha!) angel has turned around and is now breech. When the nurse went to find her heartbeat yesterday, she was head down like she's been for weeks. Last night I had some horrible pains and lots of pushing & shoving, so we think that's when it happened.

Various parts of the baby were measuring much larger than others. I remember that the head was 41 weeks, the belly was 38 weeks, & the leg was 41 weeks. Her estimated weight is 8 pounds even. That's not so bad. She'll probably be close to Baylie's weight (9lbs 3oz). I feel like I could handle that, if she would turn back around.

My obstetrician was out today and won't be back until Tuesday due to the holiday. So the nurse talked to me for a few minutes and consulted the doctor on call. She said to be sure and come in ASAP if I have contractions or my water breaks. They wanted Dr. Parr to see me as soon as possible, so I was given an appointment for Tuesday at 2:30.

I guess we have a decision to make about the aversion. I probably will go with it, since I really want to avoid a c-section and I feel much better about being able to handle her size her now. The sonographer said he thought they usually will try to turn the baby on the day you are supposed to be induced. I'm hoping the doctor will listen to me when I tell her how I don't think it would be of any benefit to let her get much bigger. It could only effect the chances of her turning around. The nurse said the chances are only 50/50 normally.

I don't remember if I mentioned that I'll have to have an antibiotic during labor because I tested positive for Group B strep. I didn't with Baylie, so that was a new thing for me. Actually, almost every part of this pregnancy has been different than the first time.
