This is a day America will never forget. We will never forget the horrible events that unfolded today. Today two commercial airplanes, with passengers on them, were hijacked and forced to crash into the World Trade Center's two towers. Both towers have collapsed along with another building. Another jet was crashed into the Pentagon. Another into a field outside of Pittsburgh, PA. As of now, there is no number estimated for loss of lives. We do know 266 people were lost on the planes, 200 New York City police officers, and 250 Firefighters are missing. President George W. Bush has promised that whomever is responsible for this will pay.
As I type this tragic news my two beautiful girls are asleep in their room. They don't know anything that's going on. That's the way Kirt and I want it. They are too young to be burdened with this horrible news.
The day started as any other school day. Baylie ate her cereal as I got ready for school. When we were almost ready to go I woke up Camryn who was in a great mood. I nursed her, got her dressed then we left. It was such a gorgeous day outside.
As I turned the van on I was hit with the of the World Trade Center attack. At school we all got our rooms ready and our arms ready to receive our kids. You could tell immediately the day was going to be different. The children were rattled. even the ones who didn't know what had happened knew that their Moms and Dads were upset. We tried our best to make the day seem as normal as possible. Mrs. Mary, our director and my close friend, came in my room to tell me that one of Baylie's friends had grabbed her hand, looked up at her with tears in her eyes and asked "Why could they have just asked us to listen?" It was such an innocent question. One that rung in our ears all day.
I'm not sure what else to say. I wanted to record this piece of history in my diary for my girls to read some day. I'll never forget what we were doing when we heard what had happened. We hugged the girls extra hard tonight as we tucked them in and gave extra kisses. We certainly we reminded that life is so short.
