Dawn L's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
October 24, 2001
I thought I'd update my diary with the latest. We went to the Pedi today to get Camryn weighed and for me to ask all my questions. I'm SO glad we did.
Camryn has lost 1.5 pounds in the last week. It's a really bad thing. She's now down to 11.5 pounds. The last time she was down to that she was 1.5 months old. She's 20 weeks now. :o(
When the nurse told me I just started crying. It's so frustrating. I'm doing everything I know to do. She's not spitting up as much, she's eating more (at night too) and still she lost a LOT of weight.
So, we're not going to take the two meds she was one ($75 down the drain) and she'll start Prilosec today. It's once a day, so that's better than the schedule we were on.
I told the doctor I didn't want to stop nursing b/c I thought it was very important, but I would supplement the formula with rice in it if she thought it would help. So I will give her .5 oz three times a day in addition to nursing and cereal. We also are upping her amount of cereal per meal to see if that will help. I took her off of all foods and will start over to see if there's one or more that irritates her reflux more than the others.
We also have several vials to fill with BM to test for a parasite or for fat absorbtion problems. This is all so much. I know now why I was being led to quit working. We have weekly weigh-ins until we start having weight gain again. So, think of us while we deal with this. Luckily my last day at work is next Thursday.
Dr. Mitchell also left a message with a Pediatric GI to see if there was anything else we could try or check into.
I got all her weights today since I hadn't been good about recording them on my calendar in here in the diary. Here they are:
6/5 8 pounds, 1 ounce (birth)
6/8 7 pounds, 11 ounces
6/19 8 pounds, 9 ounces
7/23 11 pounds, 2 ounces
7/25 11 pounds, 12.5 ounces
8/17 12 pounds, 5 ounces
10/8 12 pounds, 14 ounces
10/15 12 pounds, 13 ounces
10/24 11 pounds, 8 ounces
So, it's pretty clear the weight loss this week was bad, and that she hasn't progressed much since she was one and a half months old. I'm very sad about this and Kirt's just crushed. I kow we've done everything right, and we will get through this. We have alot of people praying for our family and a lot of support. It's hard when nothing you do can fix it. I feel so helpless.
Camryn's just a ray of sunshine, though. Everyone remarked on how happy she is. She is laid back, thank goodness!
