30 weeks/ 10 to go!!!

Sleeping. Suddenly I've become a snorer. It's really weird, and very unsettling. The only time I ever would've snored before was when I was stuffed up with a head cold. Now I can hear myself snoring almost every night as I drift off to sleep, and no matter how I try to stop it I can't find the off switch. It's seemingly out of my control. My husband says I'm snoring regularly now and never did before. Arghh. I hope it's just a pregnancy thing that goes away once the baby is born. I don't like it at all.

And leg cramps. In the middle of the night I'll go to roll over and get woken by excruciating leg cramps in my calf muscles. I moan and groan until hubby wakes up and he massages it and stretches it out and it'll go away in a matter of minutes. But it's a strange development.

And pillows. Just how many pillows does it take to get a pregnant woman comfortable? I have three under my head (to avoid waking up with heartburn) and I have a huge v-shaped one to tuck under the belly and stuff between my knees. Sometimes I wake up with a dull aching in my right hip. And if I don't have the pillow under my belly and I partially roll on my side the baby will kick me until I roll back.

But I haven't had any of the weird dreams books and friends have told me to expect around now. I'm kinda disappointed, I was expecting I'd be dreaming of the baby by now.

Other than that everything is going just fine. The baby is very active again, with kicks and the occasional odd squirm. I can't tell which way s/he is positioned, although I think I felt the baby hiccuping for the first time the other day and I could feel the rhythm very low down. So I guess s/he's head down. I hope so.

At antenatal classes it was amazing to notice how much everyone's belly had grown in this past week -- particularly the women who are 31-34 weeks -- they seem to be having growth spurts. My belly hasn't grown much for a couple of weeks now and my weight has been stable -- so far I've put on ten kilos. One of the women in my class has put on 17 kilos at 30 weeks and another (who says she was overweight to start with) has only put on 1½ kilos in 34 weeks which her doctor supposedly approves of -- (he told her he'd be happy if she didn't gain any weight at all during pregnancy!)

By the way, I had a great weekend with my mother and niece visiting. We went shopping for baby bits'n'pieces, and went out for lunch and it was all very pleasant and I didn't get too exhausted. My Mum is very excited about another grandchild -- she adores babies.

I've been taking things a lot slower this week and feel much better for it. I've had the odd lie-in and have been in bed early. This is the way it'll have to be from now on -- lots of rest and relaxation. WOW! Only ten weeks to go -- it really is hard to believe. I don't think it's sunk in yet.

This coming weekend we pick up our new car and will no doubt drive off into the countryside to test it out. Can't wait. We may visit friends who live a couple of hours away and have an 18-month-old daughter and who've promised to lend us a cradle. So I'm looking forward to another pleasant and not too stressful weekend.

Hope everyone is healthy and well.

All the best,

Eloise
