38 weeks, 2 weeks to go!!

Okay, I’m still calm. And I’m nesting. The cleaning bug has hit me in earnest. It doesn’t feel like a maniacal compulsion but it’s taking an unexpected turn. I’m re-decorating. I’m throwing out old ornaments and paintings and bits’n’pieces and I’m rearranging everything. I’ve decided we HAVE to have a new couch, and while we’re at it we might as well get a few other new furniture and decorator items – cushions, pictures, bed-side tables. So there you go, new baby, new look for the flat. Out go the Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon posters, in come Pre-raphaelite prints and silver candle-stick holders. Good-bye rock’n’roll, hello chinese silk cushions. Arghh, what’s happening?

I guess I’m about to begin a new phase of life.

Oh, and I’ve done all my Christmas shopping – six weeks early! It’s me, and every other pregnant woman in Melbourne, all hovering around the Christmas card stands and madly zipping gifts onto our credit cards. Every shop assistant who sees me tells me they’ve just had another pregnant woman in before me doing her Christmas shopping early. Are we pregnant women organised or what?

And I’m getting excited. Particularly about people finally finding out what we’re having (gender of baby) and what name we’ve chosen. It’s been tough but we’ve managed to keep our lips sealed all these long weeks and months and soon, when bubby arrives, everyone will know. It’ll be a relief to finally be able to use the child’s name out loud, in company. And what a name we’ve picked! It’ll get tongues wagging I’m convinced. And I’m NOT looking forward to my mother’s reaction – I predict it will be unfavourable! But JK and I decided on this name really early on, in fact, it was the only name we considered for this gender baby. It was the first one I mentioned and JK instantly agreed and we haven’t wavered since. It was obviously destined.

A girlfriend rang me the other day to tell me she’s 12 weeks pregnant with baby number two. Wow. It all happens so fast. I suspect that that’s the future for me and my 30-something girl-friends: babies, babies, babies.

Okay, I’m gonna sign off early this week. No other news as yet. No contractions, no bloody mucous show (don’t you just love that phrase), and no bursting waters. No imminent signs of baby yet. And my midwife tells me they won’t intervene or even check my cervix until I’m 41 weeks. Whoopee! Minimal interference suits me just fine. And I have a feeling I'm gonna run late. We'll see, eh?

So till next week, I hope everyone is happy and healthy.
