Gerri K's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

January 25, 2000

1/25/01

Well I don’t know what happened but I missed last weeks entry!! I didn’t even realize it until I started writing this one! DUH! I guess you can call that PG brain!! I have been forgetting lots of things lately. Now that we can post our own diary, this shouldn't be a problem any longer!! I am so excited that we have this ability now! Now an update can be posted daily or whenever needed!

This entry brings me to my 14th week. I am feeling bigger every day. I am continuing to feel much better too. I am still really tired but all my morning sickness has faded away for the most part. I still get minor bouts of nausea every now and then but no big deal.

My appt on the 11th went really well. The Dr. couldn’t find the heartbeat so she sent me in for an ultrasound. I was pretty freaked out that she couldn’t hear the heartbeat since I was 12wks and at that time I knew we should be able to hear it. I think the Dr. sensed that I was freaked out so she sent me for the ultrasound “just to be sure.” Well, the ultrasound showed us a nice little baby with a perfect heartbeat of 162 bpm. I was so relieved! I was also very happy to see the baby. According to the measurements, the baby is due a day earlier than we originally thought. The Dr. and I talked about my delivery among a lot of other things and I have decided to go with another C-section. I had actually already decided that before we talked and I asked her about it and she said that whatever I wanted to do was what we would do. She also assured me that if I went into labor or my water broke before the scheduled section, we would just do it at that time. She told me we could schedule it anytime between 7/12/01 and 7/22/01. My official EDD is 7/22/01 and we are going to try to schedule the delivery for 7/12/01. So, at my next appointment I will let her know.

Over the past weekend I was having a pretty constant pain in my left side. It seems to be from my lower abdomen to almost the top of my navel but more off to the side. It hurt at times too. If I recall, it is just from growing and stretching. It isn’t anything that I am worried about really. It is more annoying than anything.

I went to the Dr. today because I have been suffering from a migraine headache that is contributing to my nausea. I have been feeling terrible so I went in and they prescribed my some Tylenol 3 – that should help. I also got to hear the baby’s heartbeat today too!! The Dr. said it was in the 150’s.

I have my next OB appt on 2/2/01. I haven’t felt any movement yet, and I don’t expect to until maybe next week or so. I felt movement with DD in my 18th week so I am hoping that I will feel this one a little sooner. I have heard that sometimes you feel it a couple weeks sooner. Some of the women on my Due In July board have already felt movement and they are very happy, as they should be. It is a very exciting time during the pregnancy. I just can’t wait to join them in the excitement.

We started a new thing with DD over the past week. Up until now she has always woken up in the middle of the night and we have always gone in to her with a bottle. We would rock her and she would drink her bottle and go back to sleep. We are trying to get her into a better sleep habit, which we should have done a long time ago. I bought the book “How to get your child to sleep through the night, every night” and it basically gives you the tools and information on what to do. There are several ways to approach it and we decided to go with the quickest way. Basically, when she wakes up you let her cry it out until she goes back to sleep. Of course, if she is sick or having a nightmare then we would go in and comfort her. The book said that it would take about 3 days before we saw any improvement. The first night she cried for 45 minutes in her crib. It was really very hard for me not to go in and hold her but I knew that if I did it would defeat the purpose. Sure enough, she fell back to sleep and slept the rest of the night. The following night she woke up at 4am and just talked to herself and whined a little bit but nothing major – she was back to sleep within 30 minutes. On the 3rd night she didn’t even wake up. At this point, she is sleeping through the night – YEAH!!! We are doing this in an effort to get ready for the new baby. The last thing we need is to have to get up with her and the baby every night. I am sure that at first she will wake up when the baby does and that will just take some getting use to on her part. But, she will have the know how to get herself back to sleep without mommy or daddy coming in and rocking her. We are happy with our decision and think it is already showing success. The next step is going to be getting her out of her crib and into a twin bed. We need the crib for the baby so this will happen in the next couple months. We always tell her that she is a big girl now and that will just be the next step in the process. She accepts change pretty well after the initial shock so I don’t imagine we are going to have too much trouble with it. It is all part of growing up. One baby step at a time.

That’s it for now! Until next time……….

Best Regards,

Gerri K
