Holly's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

April 12, 2004

At 11:30 on Saturday April 3 my water broke. This was just as I was laying down to go to
sleep. I got up called our family who lives 2 hours away and we packed the last minute
things and headed to the hospital. At this time I was not having any contractions. The
hospital is about 15 minutes away. We get there and are one of three ready to deliver. The other two women go into triage and get a room before me. I sit in the waiting area
leaking fluid all over the floor. Thankfully they came to get me soon and I am indeed in
labor even though I have only had 2 contractions at that time. They get me a room, but tell me that Abbey can’t stay with us so Mike takes her to the waiting room to wait for family to come and watch her. I labor alone for about 3 hours It wasn’t too bad just uncomfortable. I watch some TV and try to rest. I had a really rude nurse at first who told my husband that our daughter was in the way even though she wasn’t doing anything. The hospital was very busy that night so I got a new nurse named Nikki who was awesome. She let me drink water and was very nice. My family finally came and Mike got to join me. The contractions were coming faster now but still were not too bad. I did have to throw up a few times. I did the same thing with my first child. At least this time I didn’t have keilbosa and potatoes come up. When the nurse checked me I was at 5 centimeters so they brought me my epidural. As soon as the Dr left I felt faint. When the nurse checked me this time I was at 10 and she was ready to come out. The epidural had kicked in just enough to take theedge off so I could actually feel the baby coming out. With my first daughter I felt nothing and it was wonderful. The Dr came in I pushed a few times and Emily Sarah Elizabeth McKenzie entered the world. After 5 1/2 hours of labor. This being the day before my Dr returned from vacation. She weighed 7 pound 7 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Her big sister is so happy to finally have her here. Abbey is such a
good helper. I don’t know what I would do without her.
