Jamie's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

Introduction

Hi,
I went to the midwife yesterday. I saw the doctor, though, so I didn't get to go over a lot of things I wanted to. I had the group B strep done and hopefully that turns out fine. When he measured my tummy, he said it's a very reasonable-sized baby, probably around 6 pounds. That's a relief to hear = ).

I've gained 35 pounds, and he said since it doesn't seem to be affecting the baby, so chow down as much as I want. That's OK, though. Thirty-five is more than plenty for me. I'm considered full term now, and it's fine to have the baby. He would have stripped my membranes yesterday if I wanted but we decided not to. He said in his experience it doesn't really shave any time off the pregnancy. In hindsight, I wish we had had him do it because we are going to start my black cohosh either tonight or tomorrow night. It depends on if Kris can get out of duty tonight. If we do it tonight, then he can have the whole weekend with me, miss school on Monday, take his test on Tuesday, and then be on leave. If they won't let him out of duty and I had the baby tonight, he'd have to take emergency leave from today until Tuesday night, when his leave is scheduled to start. So we'll see what happens!

Now that it's so close, I'm getting more scared. I'm scared to death of being in labor. I like the breathing I learned though, and it is relaxing. Just as long as I don't tense up and can relax with it, I'm sure I'll be fine. Kris knows it is his job to make sure they don't ask me if I want pain meds. They said in class that it can be put in my chart not to offer any pain meds, and I think that will be best. IF I decide to have pain meds, it will be Stadol because that is the only option besides an epidural at this hospital. Oh, I still need to pack my bag for the hospital also. We bought me some chicken broth and Jell-o to eat during labor, and Kris some fruit and frozen dinners to eat up there. We have everything we need now. It's just a matter of getting organized and getting this show on the road!

OK, time to get ready for work. Only five days more of work if we don't have the baby before then = ).
