Expert Q&A
Question:
Do most babies get suctioned at birth?
Answer:
The bulb syringe is often used to clear mucous from the nose and back of the mouth and that is probably enough suctioning to make breathing easier for the baby. If a baby has difficulty breathing even thought the bulb syringe has been used, a De Lee catheter may be used for clearing fluids.
