If exposure to paint is unavoidable, here are some guidelines:
1) Determine whether the old paint is lead-free prior to exposure.
2) Wear protective clothing such as a mask, gloves and a smock
3) Use a paint/finish that is low-odor, low-VOC (volatile organic compounds)
4) Provide as much ventilation as possible, including opening windows and using a fan.
