Cord Blood
Questions:
- I want to keep the cord blood for family use but would also like to donate some. Is there enough in there for both if they are only taking a syringe full?
- Is the cord blood sample enriched for stem cells or is it stored whole?
- Is there anything that I can do or take that may increase the amount of stem cells and/or blood collected at the time of delivery?
- What are the effects of Magnesium Sulfate on the collection of cord blood/stem cells?
- If I'm on prescription medication, can they still collect my cord blood? What medications might affect the sample?
- My baby might be premature. Can her cord blood still be effective and banked properly?
- When collecting cord blood, if the cord is left pulsating and not cut before hand, wouldn't the baby have a lower risk of developing these diseases in the first place because it is getting the blood to protect it?
- What tests are done on the cord blood sample? Is MHCI typing included?
- I'm having twins. Can I still have the cord blood collected or will things be happening so fast that my doctor won't be able to?
