Expert Q&A
Question:
I would like to know if iced tea is OK to drink? I'm 11 weeks pregnant and I'm getting bored of fruit juices. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Caffeine is still a controversial subject. The research is still inconclusive whether it has side effects or causes miscarriages. However, since there is research that it shows it to cause miscarriages, many women choose to avoid it at all costs. An excessive amount shown to cause miscarriages is 300mg per day. To be on the safe side, you may want to switch to decaffeinated to be really cautious.

Iced tea, a 12-ounce serving, has about 67 to 76 mg of caffeine. I think your best bet is to choose decaffeinated sodas, coffees and teas. Fruit juices offer much more nutrients, but I know it's good to get variety. So, choose wisely and if you choose to drink caffeine keep it under 300mg.
