Expert Q&A
I am very disappointed that I am pregnant with a boy. What advice can you give me to get past my denial, and how can I appreciate the fact that my baby appears to be otherwise normal and healthy?
It is very good that you can admit your disappointment. This is the first step out of denial. You may have spent years picturing yourself with a little girl, so give yourself time to develop new pictures in your brain. Perhaps you have already started talking to people about the differences between raising girls and boys (there are real differences!). Having a little girl can be lots of fun, but the relationship between a mother and a teenage daughter can be quite a challenge. Ask your friends about the benefits of having a boy. Most likely, when you give birth, "mother nature" will take over and the problem will disappear.
