Expert Q&A
Question:
Is it OK to lift boxes weighing between 10 to 40 pounds when pregnant?
Answer:
If you are having a normal pregnancy and have had no previous history of pre-term labor or abnormality with a past pregnancy, you should be able to do the same things you did before you got pregnant.

Keep in mind, though, that your body is changing and some of these changes may put you at increased risk for injury to your back and other joints and ligaments. It is necessary when lifting heavy objects to use good body mechanics. Lift with your legs, not your back.

Also be aware that women can experience a change in their sense of balance due to shifts in the center of gravity. If at any time you feel light-headed or uncomfortable with lifting -- don't do it.
