Expert Q&A
Question:
Is it safe to use a computer during pregnancy?
Answer:
To date there is no research that indicates that using computers during your pregnancy can be harmful.

During pregnancy, however, you can be at increased risk for developing carpal tunnel syndrome. This is a swelling along the carpal tunnel in the wrist which can produce pain, tingling and loss of sensation in the hand. Using wrist rests to prevent flexion during typing, maintaining good posture and drinking adequate fluids could help to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.

For more information about carpal tunnel syndrome, see this article by orthopedic surgeon William Hagberg, MD: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome During Pregnancy.
