As the pregnancy enlarges there is strain placed on the back, bladder abdominal muscles and pelvic floor. These abdominal support garments decrease pressure on the spine and pelvic floor and many women report a decrease on low back pain, abdominal pain and bladder problems and vulvar varicosities and hemorrhoids. Pregnancy support hose, since they cover the abdomen, also can be helpful.
These support garments are often especially helpful for women pregnant with multiples and women who's abdominal muscles may be lax from multiple pregnancies.
I recommend being fitted for this garment versus just buying a girdle not designed for pregnancy. Sleeping in an abdominal support garment is not necessary, but you may want to put it on prior to getting up in the morning.
