There are some research studies that address the effect of stress and mood of the mother in an unborn baby. One in particular mentions the possibility of reduced blood flow to the baby, which may in turn affect its development. And this could also alter the hormonal balance in the fetus.
However, I do not want you to interpret this information as alarmist. Keep in mind it was ONE study of a small sample of mothers. The same information may not hold true in your case.
It is more important to address the day-to-day external stressors and depression that you are feeling now, particularly the fact that you have experienced depression before. This is a risk factor for postpartum depression which, of course, you want to try and avoid before it occurs.
I would really like you to see a health care professional who is experienced in depression, especially before birth. You are in the third trimester, which is a relatively safe time if you need to take anti-depressant and/or anti-anxiety medication prescribed by a doctor. I would also strongly suggest that you receive some counseling to support you during this stressful time in your life. It is well known that medication and counseling are the best combination to help a woman who is experiencing depression.
Please take care of yourself as soon as you can.
