For those of us who presently have or have had long hair, we realize the advantages and disadvantages. Then looking forward to a new child and the reality of having much less time for ourselves presents a problem for the mom with long hair. Without seeing and feeling of your hair, I would be unable to determine if cutting your hair off would be the proper response to your problem. By layering it, you could take some of the weight out of it allowing you to dry it in less time, and with your perm it could possibly make it easier to care for while maintaining a very nice look.
On the other hand, when your perm begins to relax, you will want to perm again or you will be blow drying more and using the round brush which will take more of your time. Bangs and/or possibly cutting around your face will keep it out of your face better than the one length straight frame the face look. Braids are always a good way to keep it out of your way, and you could still braid your hair if you opted for long layers.
New moms need a lift after the baby gets here, new clothes, makeup redesigned, maybe a new radical change in your hair style. I advise you to keep your long hair trimmed well (every six to eight weeks), condition with a deep penetrating conditioner once a month and use a lite non- oily after shampoo conditioner after each shampoo. Then once the baby is born, go to your hairdresser for that change that you may want emotionally and physically.
