Before I found out that I was pregnant, I began jogging and lifting weights. Can I continue with these exercises? Also, will my body become toned although I am pregnant right now?
Yes, with your doctor's permission, you can continue these activities as long as you remain aware and sensitive to your body. Be aware of when you need to just take a walk instead of run, and when you need to stretch instead of do your regular weight training routine. On the Pregnancy Today Web site I also have mentioned the
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology guidelines for exercise during pregnancy . Read those and happily continue with your workouts. Your body will still respond to the exercise. However, the priorities of the functioning of your body have changed, and so should your workout goals. Exercise for the maintenance of the "well-being" of your body, mind, and spirit to feel strong and healthy. Don't exercise to lose weight, or to reach any other goals that may stray you from the joy of pregnancy."
