Expert Q&A
What are some contraindications for aquatic aerobic exercise for pregnant women? Can you give some suggestions of some good exercises?
I don't know of any contraindications for aquatic exercise during pregnancy. It's actually quite an ideal form of exercise during pregnancy because of the lack of gravity. If you can swim regularly throughout your pregnancy, great! You won't need me to give you any other suggestions except to keep doing your pelvic floor exercises (kegels). Instead of doing intermittent kegels, try to hold them for a minimum of 10 counts, envisioning an elevator going up the center of your body. Lifting the pelvic floor higher with each count. Also, read the ACOG guidelines that I have on the site regarding exercise during pregnancy."
