Expert Q&A
Question:
I have been advised to not work out until my first trimester is completed. I worked out regularly prior to my pregnancy, but my pregnancy was hard one (15 months and two rounds of Clomid). Have you heard of an increase in miscarriage if you workout during the first trimester? I am anxious for these 12 weeks to pass so I can swim and use the stairmaster. What are your thoughts?
Answer:
If your doctor or caregiver has advised you not to exercise for the first trimester, I would advise you to do the same.

Lately, for women who have difficulty getting pregnant, or staying pregnant, doctors will advise minimal activity to make sure that the pregnancy will stick. For the cases that I'm experienced with, it's mainly a precaution. It may be annoying, but comparatively is a small sacrifice.

After your first 12 weeks, you can go back to swimming and the stairmaster. Swimming is best of the two because it keeps your body temperature at safe levels.
