Expert Q&A
I am overdue. I was wondering if you had any advice on what I can do to make things speed up a little bit. I have tried walking, and it doesn't get me anywhere. I've tried sex, herbal tea, rubbing my belly, yet I can't seem to dilate.
This is a difficult time for many women. It is normal for labor to begin any time between 38 and 42 weeks of pregnancy. All the strategies you have tried are good ones but ultimately your body and baby will pick your delivery date. I would talk to your health care provider about the use of evening primrose oil to ripen (soften and dilate) your cervix. Relaxation, getting plenty of sleep and some visualization techniques may also help. Good luck and keep us posted!
