Expert Q&A
Question:
What happens if you haven't dilated by your due date?
Answer:

The answer to this question is: first re-check gestational age to be sure of the due date. Due date is at 40 weeks, but most people will deliver a few days before or after. An acceptable waiting time is up to 42 weeks, as long as the baby is doing well in the intrauterine environment. There are tests that the obstetrician will recommend to assess fetal well-being in order to decide how long the baby can stay in utero . If there are any signs of problems with the baby shown by the tests, induction of labor should follow.
