Expert Q&A
How will childbirth affect my osteoporosis? I am 25 with one child and would like to have another. I also have rheumatoid arthritis (not very active at this time).
Osteoporosis is an illness of aging in which calcium is lost from the bone. Osteoporosis in a 25 year old is almost unheard of and would require sub-specialty endocrinology consultation. I assume your question primarily pertains to rheumatoid arthritis, an auto-immune disease in which various joints become inflamed and cause pain. Most auto-immune diseases wane on their own without a clear pattern. Rheumatoid arthritis is no exception. As a rule, these types of diseases are not predictably affected by pregnancy."
