Please sit down with your health care provider and discuss this. Some suggestions...
1. Make sure you are pre-registered at the hospital and your prenatal records are there. Better yet, bring your own copy.
2. Have more than one plan for childcare of your 10 month old and who will take you to the hospital.
3. Rent a pager for your husband for the last month of your pregnancy.
4. Call your health care provider right away when labor begins and plan on going in. If your labor is half as long (1.5 hours) you should make it to the hospital. Carry the phone number with you at all times.
5. If you live very far away from the hospital at which you plan to deliver, know the closest hospital with OB services en route.
6. Discuss induction of labor at 40 weeks with your healthcare provider. It is my personal preference to avoid this but for a woman with a favorable cervix (already dilated and effaced) it may be an option.
Good luck and please let us know the outcome!
