Since the cervix may be weakened by the conization procedure, you will need to be monitored for "cervical incompetence." This is a condition in which the cervix starts to dilate prematurely and can lead to preterm rupture of the membranes and preterm birth. Your OB/GYN can let you know how he or she plans to monitor you for this potential problem.
