Expert Q&A
Question:
I'm on day 28 of a 30 day cycle. Will a pregnancy test be accurate?
Answer:
From the earliest stages of development, the placenta produces hormones (including human chorionic gonadotrophin – hCG) that are excreted in the urine and measured by pregnancy testing kits. False negative tests may be due to dilute urine, or a specimen obtained too early in pregnancy. False positive tests may be due to protein or blood in the urine or the presence of certain medications.

I suggest you repeat the home pregnancy test in one week, and notify your healthcare provider if you have a positive result or if you have a negative result but still feel that you might be pregnant.
