Expert Q&A
Question:
I am pregnant and am expecting twins. I have searched the Web trying to find out why my babies have separate due dates even though one only weighs a few ounces more than the other.
Answer:

The difference in the twin's due dates does not sound significant and just has to do with the normal variation that happens in ultrasound measurements. As you know the twins will ultimately have the same delivery date. However, there may be some significant differences between certain measurements of the twins bodies that can be of concern.

For example, if one twin was showing a much smaller abdominal circumference than the other, then there might be some issues with the placenta or placentas sharing nutrients equally. That is why you might have to see a specialist in High Risk Obstetrics. The bottom line is that you should call your doctor's office and let them know you don't really understand what the problem is and can it be explained to you better.
