Expert Q&A
Question:
I'm 8 months pregnant and my urinalysis came in positive for protein. What does this mean? Will this affect my baby? I've got swelling of the feet and hands, too though my blood pressure is still 110/70."
Answer:
A small amount of protein (proteinuria) is normally detectable in the urine of a pregnant patient. However, proteinuria can also be associated with complications of pregnancy such as preeclampsia and infections of the urinary tract. Your health care provider can determine if further investigation of your proteinuria is warranted."
