Expert Q&A
Can you clarify the controversy over taking vitamin A?
Vitamin supplements in pregnancy are controversial. Most daily requirements for vitamins should be met through the diet. If a supplement is taken, then it should be remembered that this is not a substitute for a good and healthy diet. Vitamin A in large doses can be toxic, so no more than 4,000 or 5,000 IU of Vitamin A per day is recommended.
