Expert Q&A
Question:
With terrible morning sickness in the first half of my pregnancy, I'm not sure I've gained enough weight. How much should I gain during pregnancy?
Answer:
If you were in your ideal weight range prior to pregnancy, you should gain 25-35 pounds during pregnancy. If you were underweight you can gain more weight, depending upon how underweight you were prior to pregnancy.

Weight gain during the pregnancy may vary from woman to woman. Some gain more in the beginning and slow down at the end, some gain more in the end, and others may gain equal amounts throughout. If you have gained an adequate amount of weight for the entire pregnancy, you should not worry about a slowing of weight gain in the third trimester.

If you still have not gained adequate weight, I recommend drinking high-protein milkshakes. I suggest putting these ingredients in a blender: 1 cup milk, 1/3 cup powdered milk, 1 egg substitute, 3/4 cup fruit and 1/4 cup wheat germ. Blend and enjoy.
