There are no medically proven interventions to prevent stretch marks. Intake of vitamins C and E and increased protein have been recommended to keep the skin healthy. I recommend a healthy balanced diet, but not to supplement with these vitamins during pregnancy.
Many lotions, especially cocoa butter, have been thought to decrease stretch marks. While keeping the skin smooth and supple won't hurt, it is important to remember that stretch marks are probably caused by a hormonal change that expensive lotions can not alter. Some specialists are recommending Retin A to treat stretch marks after pregnancy -- but treatment is NOT advised during pregnancy.
Pregnant women should always be careful with sun exposure, as the hormone melanin is altered during pregnancy, and sun exposure can lead to permanent skin changes.
