Expert Q&A
Question:
Can smoking affect a man's sperm count? What else can affect a man's sperm count?
Answer:
Smoking decreases sperm number and motion; it also causes more abnormal forms. There is no evidence that it decreases fertility except in marginal cases. Alcohol, caffeine and drugs like marijuana and cocaine also cause the same problem. There are also many workplace chemicals which affect sperm counts; there should be OSHA materials available at the job site on any chemicals found in an individual workplace.
