Expert Q&A
How will my pelvic kidney affect my pregnancy? Who should I be talking to prior to conception to determine how high the risks are?
Pelvic kidneys (renal ectopia) are more vulnerable to infection; this may or may not have any effect on your pregnancy. You should talk to your OB/GYN. He or she may want to check before you get pregnant if there are any other malformations in your pelvis, because pelvic kidneys are associated with malformations of the urogenital tract and/or may obstruct a normal vaginal delivery.
