Expert Q&A
I was 40 pounds overweight when I became pregnant. I'm worried about gaining more weight! How can I safely control my weight with exercise during pregnancy?
You are required during pregnancy to have 300 more calories per day. You should target having many of these calories from protein. That said, maintaining your weight during pregnancy is a combination of watching what you eat and also aerobic exercise. Keep in mind that you should still be able to carry on a conversation when you are doing aerobic exercise. If you are unable to do so, then you are overexerting yourself. Also, don't get overheated and do not do exercises that put you at risk for falling."
